If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning

“ Most people overestimate what they can get done in a year and underestimate what they can do in a decade.” (Bill Gates)

Project: While studying the Amal Academy course, Productivity: The Secret of Getting Things Done. I got to know about this weird term Eat that frog with a Pomodoro and get really surprised to learn about it. It can help to resolve lots of focus issues every one of us faces in daily life when completing any important task.

I decided to give it a try and use it in my professional life as a habit. Before going into what I learn from it, let me introduce to you this amazing and easy technique.

This technique developed by Francesco Cirillo a German-Italian programmer and IT Consultant During the 1980’s he read a study in which it is suggested to break different and complex tasks into a portion of 25 to 40 minutes. This will help us to make work look easier and manageable and help to improve focus.

This technique is best for everyone who faces the following issues.

Struggling with procrastination

Done lots of stuff but not completing the important and difficult tasks

Facing a hard time to focus

Feels overwhelmed by their to-do list

Eat that Frog with a Pomodoro

This amazing technique has the following three simple steps

1- Identify your frog

2-Eat it

3-Repeat every day.

“If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.

So, coming back to my task, I have decided to complete implementing this technique. On Tuesday after waking up I decided to complete a complex and difficult task that’s to write a detailed reply with year-long data and information from different team members. and prepare a detailed report supported by every necessary document.

For focusing on my task I download an app from the google play store name Forest: Stay focused

I kept my mobile aside and only focused on completing my targeted task during early hours at the office on Tuesday. and surprisingly I was able to complete the complex and difficult task within 2 hours with complete focus and dedication.

I faced many distractions during working on the task some of us are following

Phone calls

Whatsapp messages

Social media notifications

Visitors

Distractions related to other work at the office

But honestly, I learned a lot by implementing this technique.

Following are my key learning points from Eat that Frog with a Pomodoro

1-Need of time

2-Focus improvement

3-Time management

4- Doing complex tasks in the morning.

5- Promote deep work habit

6- Help in organizing tasks
